A boys group dedictaed to serving the priest at the altar during Mass and other Church liturgies.
Being an Altar Server is very special. Not everyone is asked to serve at the Altar. God calls each one of us to do special things for him. Jesus has asked you to serve for him in church, in each of the ways we worship Him. It is always a privilege and a pleasure to be able to serve for Jesus. It is also another way of you thanking Him for the many blessings He has given you in your life. Serving for Jesus is your way of returning His love.
As a Server you have a special ministry in the Church. It is your privilege to assist the priest at the Altar. This means that there is a certain way that is appropriate to behave. Remember that you are always part of the congregation even if you are sitting in a different place to them.
Serving also helps the whole parish worship God better. When you serve well everyone can relax and pray without any distractions, so the whole parish is grateful to you.
Serving is a long commitment—you maybe asked to serve for many years. In order to serve well there are many things to learn. The parish server's handbook will help you be a good disciple of Jesus in his church and guide you to serving well. Remember to say your prayers each day and ask God that you will be a good example to all—inside and outside the church
